Procédure pour supprimer Linux et installer Windows XP

Windows XP est une suite logicielle indispensable à la necessaire sécurisation de votre installation informatique.
Cet article explique comment supprimer le système d’exploitation Linux de votre ordinateur et installer Windows XP. Il part de l’hypothèse que Linux est déjà installé sur le disque dur de votre ordinateur, que des partitions natives et d’échange Linux (incompatibles avec Windows XP) sont utilisées et qu’il ne reste plus d’espace disponible sur le disque dur.
Pour installer Windows XP sur un ordinateur sur lequel Linux est déjà installé (et en supposant que vous souhaitez supprimer Linux), vous devez supprimer manuellement les partitions employées par le système d’exploitation Linux. La partition compatible avec Windows peut être créée automatiquement pendant l’installation de Windows XP.
IMPORTANT : avant de suivre les étapes décrites dans cet article, vérifiez que vous disposez d’un disque ou d’un CD-ROM de démarrage pour le système d’exploitation Linux. En effet, cette procédure supprime complètement le système d’exploitation de votre ordinateur. Si vous prévoyez de restaurer le système d’exploitation Linux à une date ultérieure, vérifiez que vous possédez également une sauvegarde opérationnelle de toutes les informations stockées sur votre ordinateur. Vous devez posséder en outre une version complète de Windows XP utilisable pendant cette installation. Si vous envisagez d’utiliser un CD-ROM de mise à niveau de Windows XP, vous devez disposer du CD-ROM d’un produit Windows autorisant cette mise à jour. Ce dernier vous sera demandé par le programme d’installation du CD-ROM de mise à niveau de Windows XP.
Les systèmes de fichiers Linux utilisent un superbloc au début d’une partition de disque pour identifier la taille, la forme et la condition de base du système de fichiers.
Le système d’exploitation Linux est généralement installé sur le type de partition 83 (natif Linux) ou 82 (échange Linux). Le gestionnaire de démarrage Linux (LILO) peut être configuré pour démarrer à partir de l’un des emplacements suivants :
* secteur de démarrage principal (MBR) du disque dur ;
- ou -
* dossier racine de la partition Linux.
Vous pouvez vous servir de l’outil Fdisk inclus avec Linux pour supprimer les partitions. D’autres utilitaires fonctionnent tout aussi bien, notamment Fdisk de MS-DOS 5.0 (ou une version ultérieure), ou vous pouvez supprimer les partitions pendant le processus d’installation.
Pour supprimer Linux de votre ordinateur et installer Windows XP, procédez comme suit :
1. Supprimez les partitions native, d’échange et de démarrage utilisées par Linux :
1. Démarrez votre ordinateur avec la disquette de démarrage de Linux, tapez fdisk à l’invite de commande, puis appuyez sur ENTRÉE.
REMARQUE : pour obtenir de l’aide sur l’utilisation de l’outil Fdisk, tapez m à l’invite de commande, puis appuyez sur ENTRÉE.
2. Tapez p à l’invite de commande, puis appuyez sur ENTRÉE pour afficher les informations sur les partitions. Le premier élément de la liste est hard disk 1, partition 1 informationet le second élément hard disk 1, partition 2 information.
3. Tapez d à l’invite de commande, puis appuyez sur ENTRÉE. Vous êtes invité à indiquer le numéro de la partition que vous souhaitez supprimer. Tapez 1, puis appuyez sur ENTRÉE pour supprimer la partition numéro 1. Répétez la procédure jusqu’à ce que toutes les partitions aient été supprimées.
4. Tapez w, puis appuyez sur ENTRÉE pour écrire cette information dans la table de partition. Des messages d’erreur peuvent être générés (puisque l’information est écrite dans la table de partition), mais ils ne devraient pas être significatifs à ce stade, car l’étape suivante consiste à redémarrer l’ordinateur, puis à installer le nouveau système d’exploitation.
5. Tapez q à l’invite de commande, puis appuyez sur ENTRÉE pour fermer l’outil Fdisk.
6. Insérez une disquette de démarrage ou le CD-ROM de démarrage Windows XP, puis appuyez sur CTRL+ALT+SUPPR pour redémarrer votre ordinateur.
2. Suivez les instructions à l’écran pour installer Windows XP.

Sachez qu’il existe d’autres solutions pour supprimer le système d’exploitation Linux et installer Windows XP. Nous avons inclus la méthode précédente dans cet article en partant de l’hypothèse que le système d’exploitation Linux est déjà opérationnel et qu’il n’y a plus d’espace sur le disque dur. Il existe des méthodes permettant de changer la taille d’une partition avec un logiciel conçu pour la gestion des partitions. Un logiciel de partitionnement de disque risque de provoquer des problèmes d’instabilité avec l’installation de Windows XP. Microsoft ne prend pas en charge l’installation de Windows XP sur les partitions manipulées de la sorte.
Vous pouvez également utiliser une disquette de démarrage de MS-DOS version 5.0 (ou d’une version ultérieure), de Microsoft Windows 95 ou de Microsoft Windows 98 qui contient l’utilitaire Fdisk, pour supprimer un système d’exploitation du disque dur et en installer un autre. Lorsque vous démarrez Fdisk alors que plusieurs lecteurs sont installés sur votre ordinateur, vous avez le choix entre cinq options : utilisez l’option 5 pour sélectionner le disque dur sur lequel se trouve la partition à supprimer. Ensuite (ou si vous n’avez qu’un seul disque dur), sélectionnez l’option 3 ( Supprimer une partition ou un lecteur logique DOS), puis sélectionnez l’option 4 ( Supprimer une partition non-DOS). Les partitions non-MS-DOS que vous souhaitez supprimer doivent normalement s’afficher. En général, le système d’exploitation Linux possède deux partitions non-MS-DOS, mais il peut y en avoir plus. Après avoir supprimé une partition, utilisez la même procédure pour supprimer les autres partitions non-MS-DOS appropriées.

Après la suppression des partitions, vous pouvez créer des partitions et installer le système d’exploitation de votre choix. Vous ne pouvez créer qu’une seule partition principale et une partition étendue avec plusieurs lecteurs logiques à l’aide de l’outil Fdisk de MS-DOS version 5.0 (ou version ultérieure), Windows 95 et Windows 98. La taille maximale de la partition principale FAT16 est de 2 gigaoctets (Go). La taille maximale du lecteur logique FAT16 est de 2 Go.
